Shockwave Therapy
At Urban Wellness Clinic, we utilize the latest high technology. Storz Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective and non-invasive treatment that employs state-of-the-art engineering approved by the FDA and Health Canada. The concept behind this technology is to deliver low-energy acoustic pressure waves to a targeted area, thereby producing a local tissue effect. The shockwave units act on a cellular level, increasing blood flow, stimulating metabolism, and accelerating healing. Damaged tissue regenerates, scar tissue and calcification are disrupted, and neovascularization (formation of new blood supply vessels) promotes the removal of broken-down debris while macrophages stimulate cellular repair of degenerated tissues.
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Shockwave Therapy works to promote natural healing pathways, reduced pain, and restore function with proven reduced recovery times compared to surgery. Clinical studies shows over 80% of patients experience a complete relief or significant decrease in pain following as few as three treatments with shock wave therapy. Relief can be immediate or may take as long as few weeks after treatment. It is common for patients to experience decreased pain and increased range of motion while tissues regenerate and heal within the first week.
The FDA-approved technology has been clinically tested to demonstrate its effectiveness and safety for patients, with results often exceeding the benefits of surgery. The benefits include (but are not limited to) no downtime for the patient and the ability to return to normal activities after the first treatment.
Would Shockwave Therapy be beneficial for you?
Shockwave Therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, in particular those involving areas where major connective tissue attaches to bone. Common sites that can be successfully treated are:
Foot: Plantar facilities & Achilles Tendonitis
Knee: Patellar tendinitis & shin pain
Elbow: tennis or golf elbow
Shoulder: rotator cuff tendinitis & calcific
Hip: trochanteric bursitis
Muscles: Various trigger points throughout body
Side Effects
When performed by a professional healthcare provider, Shockwave has virtually no risks or side effects. Though in some cases, patients may experience temporary lingering pain, redness, or tingling that lasts a few days. No serious side effects have been reported, and patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately.
There may be some soreness or throbbing 1-2 hours after the treatment session due to the inflammatory response of the body to the shockwave pulses. This is normal and is your bodies way of regenerating the targeted tissue and therefore healing itself . This discomfort usually subsides after 1-2 days.
Shock Wave therapy has not been tested for patients with the following conditions:
PREGNANCY
OPEN WOUNDS & INFECTIONS
MALIGNANCY
BLOOD CLOTTING DISORDERS
OVER METAL PLATES
OPEN GROWTH PLATES
DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS
